The Mt Maria, Michelton College Captains for 2018 are Maggie Maughan and James Orman.
As is the process for the selection of the college’s student leadership team, and following an interview with the Principal, the self-nominated students deliver speeches for consideration by their cohort and the college teaching team, who then vote to select the captains and other students leaders for the coming year.
Mt Maria College, Mitchelton Principal Mr Glenn McConville said all candidates delivered outstanding speeches to the community as part of their bid for captaincy.
“The quality of speeches delivered by the students was outstanding and a true representation of the calibre of each candidate as they articulated how they believed they would lead the school with a strong mind and compassionate heart,” Principal Mr Glenn McConville said.
During her speech, Maggie said that her “values align with the Marist values of the college such as love of work and family spirit” and in her conversations with the student body, she noted that students “want leaders who are committed to the role, who are proud of the college, who are inclusive of students and someone that can manage all expectations in such an important role.”
James spoke about his focus for 2018 being on “building community, fostering engagement, and promoting equality”, which he would see through stronger connection between the year levels and encouraging involvement in all college activities.
